London, London
Posted by SKI. Wednesday [04.10.13]
London, England. What can I say? I am ready to study abroad. It is going to cost a few pretty pennies, but I feel it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I will be taking two films classes out there, as well as interning. I think that is the best part. I will actually be interning for a film company in London! I also got offered the opportunity to make a short film of my experience in London for a company called My London Exchange. Things are falling into place with my film future. It feels really nice because things have been happening out of my control. If it wasn't for my faith, I don't know how I would survive on this journey. Film is embedding itself into my life. London is a destination that will lead me to my destiny.

Temptation is everywhere we turn, the question is will we succumb to it. I had not been to the movies in the longest time so I went to see Tyler Perry's Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor. It was an okay movie. But this blog post is not going to be about this film. That is for another time. I wanted to highlight an amazing point made by director Ava DuVernay on Tyler Perry and his films. She acknowledged the lack in African American films and filmmakers. DuVernay said that she respects Tyler Perry and the strides he has made in the industry. He has opened a door for more African Americans to make films. Even with the doors being opened for African Americans, we are having to play catch up compared Caucasian films in the sense of film material and topics. In the majority of African American films, the content is the same. I think she was saying in that in reference to Tyler Perry's movies having this stigma of being all the same and stereotypical. Ms. DuVernay said that African American film viewers are putting all there films' hopes and desires into this one film director to portray every aspect of the African American culture and life stories. It is unfair to ask one director to be the voice for an entire community. While watching this interview, I knew I needed to keep making strides in this film industry so that I can blaze a trail to encourage other to be storytellers. That is what film is all about. Tell a story that can impact at least one life.

Relationships is an interaction with others that is hard to escape. You see them everywhere. You hear about them. They are in our music, films, pictures and just about every other aspect of life. It the heartbeat of life. So while trying to figure out what I will do for my documentary, I decided to do it on something that all viewers can relate to, relationships. Communication and understanding are two of the ways to make a relationship last. Even though those two are very important aspects in relationships, they are not as easy as one may think. Through my documentary, I would like to build a line of understanding between males and females frame of thinking and thoughts about relationships in the college atmosphere. From this understanding and display of each other viewpoints of relationships, hopefully this will build stronger relationships, even if it is only one.

Music in Life
Posted by SKI. Wednesday [03.20.13]
As I walk around campus, I see just about everyone plugged in to some device. Headphones have become an essential again in everyday life. They block out life's natural sound while adding a soundtrack to our surroundings. I sit in class watching life go on around me while my ears are plugged and I begin to imagine creating a film where there are no dialogues, monologues or life natural sounds. It will be replaced with music from jazz to hip-hop all the way down to country. I enjoy viewing the world while my music replaces its musical noise. I will create a short with that aspect. It will be similar to the film, The Artist. Not that plot but the concept of using minimal words. It allows the music to lead us to farther understanding of the world. An explanation with no words.
THE INSPIRATIONAL FACELESS WOMAN
Posted by SKI. Wednesday [02.27.13]
This is a picture I took with my camera on my iPhone. I was walking to a friend's apartment when I spotted this leaf and had to take a picture of it. I reminded me so much of a woman's lips. Try staring at the picture knowing the leaf is lips, do you see the rest of the woman face? I do every time I do that. I think it is amazing how the mind can see something that is not even there. This is my inspirational piece. This is what I want my artwork (films) to symbolize. A piece where the viewer has to use his own interpretation or imagination for each of my pieces. I don't always want to have to tell them story. I want my viewers' minds & hearts to take over; that is when you have truly accomplished art and that is beauty.

HOT MIAMI NIGHTS
Posted by SKI. Wednesday [02.20.13].
So. This semester is already running its course on me. I am in dire need of a vacation, so I am envisioning my Spring Break this year in Miami Beach, FL. I am super excited about the crazy adventure that I will soon encounter. This photo is just one that I found on a search engine [the creds are below]. I look forward to being able to take my own pictures once I get to Miami but for now this photo will do my life some justice; it's a form of foreshadowing. I am ready to see the breeze flowing through the palm trees and the beautiful coral sunsets. Visually, the best part of this photo is the palm trees and the sky. Cheers to Hot Miami Nights!

SKI IMAN PHOTOGRAPHY

I took this photo years ago. I used to believe that photography was going to be my side gig. I was obsessed with black and white filter; I just felt that I would pull the emotions directly from your heart onto the photo because you couldn't get distracted with vivid colors. As odd as that may sound, I still believe that a little today. Now, don't get me wrong, I love vivid colors that pop in a photography but my pictures just allowed the subject of the photo do the popping. I had an entire company name...Ski Iman Photography. I bought a camera off of Ebay and I started. But like most things, it feel to the wayside. Every once in awhile I would pick up a camera and take amazing photos but that happens as often as a blue moon. But for more about the photo, I took this on a day trip to the docks in Charleston, SC with my family. I like to call this Serenity because that day every thing was so peaceful like a cool breeze. May be one day, I will pick up a camera again soley for photography but for now, my focus is on filming.

The Bloodline: 3 Generations
Posted by SKI. Thursday [01.31.13]
This picture I took years ago. This is when I was in my abstract photography mode. Even though the picture is not the best quality but it is a picture of my mother, grandmother and I. It represented our three generations. I like the fact that you can't decipher between each of us. It farther emphasizes how we are one in the same; our bloodline.
